What a Summer it has been! Unfortunately, the time has now come for us to start thinking about Winter. Some of us love Winter, some of us don’t, but those who suffer from allergies and intolerances need to be especially careful about what they eat throughout the colder months. Below are 5 top tips for eating this Winter, one of which is an intolerance test!

As the nights start to close in and our sunlight becomes limited, we tend to stay inside and change our eating habits. This is because the temperature outside is getting colder, but do not worry, Allergy Test Ireland have put together some tips to help you succeed in Winter.

1) Find your hydration station

Make sure you drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated is imperative throughout the year, as it is extremely beneficial, but it is not just a Winter thing. Water plays a vital role in the detoxification and digestive symptoms such as bloating and constipation can be worsened through dehydration. The NHS in England reckons you should drink a minimum of 6-8 glasses of water a day, and this will certainly help you with your dehydration.

2) Increase your levels of vitamin D

This is a must-do! With the sun blaring down all over Dublin and Galway, we have all been getting the vitamin D we need, as sunlight is the richest source of this vitamin. With there being shorter days, it means that getting the sunlight will be harder for us all. We recommend that you consume oily fish and lots of mushrooms, which are always a tasty addition to your salad, as you aim to add this necessary vitamin to your diet. Be careful though, fish is one of the more common intolerances, so make sure with an intolerance test that you are not intolerant. check your vitamins with an intolerance test

3) Stay clear of Viruses

VIruses can have a serious impact during the Winter months, and they are often prolific in their ways. What do we suggest? Eating lots of foods which are rich in vitamin C. Why? It is one of the body’s natural antioxidants which helps the immune system. Don’t get confused though, vitamin C will not cure a common cold, but it will make it easier to keep the viruses at bay. If you want to know what foods you should be eating, then you should consider red peppers, broccoli and brussel sprouts, as well as strawberries. We never need an excuse to eat more strawberries!

4) Frozen Fruits

Perfect for the winter, fruits provide the nutrition you need to ensure you are at optimum health throughout the winter months. Furthermore, they are also economical as they are much cheaper than purchasing fresh fruit which may not keep that well. You can store them away in the freezer and pick at them when you please, they really are the perfect option! What’s more? You can also use them to add them to your meals to ensure you have a healthy and balanced breakfast.

5) Take an intolerance test

We suggest you take an intolerance test so that you can make sure you are not eating any troublesome foods. An intolerance test will help you to identify your symptoms and guarantee that you avoid the consumption of any problem foods. An example would be if you had an intolerance to lots of items which contain vitamin C, and you are trying to boost your intake of vitamin C, then you will be able to identify which items will increase your nutrition and not cause you harm.
